Waipio Valley

Waipio is also called Valley of the Kings and is located along the Hamakua Coast on the northeast shore of the Big Island. This is a amazing scenic drive along the Hamakua coast taking you through some breathless views of the valley and beautiful plantations throughout your drive. Waipio valley is known for its beautiful hikes and is supposed to be slightly strenuous.

During our travel there was a dengue outbreak in the valley with all roads closed and we were unable to hike down the valley. There are some short-hikes available and if you get a chance to go to the Valley, I would encourage to hike at least the shortest trail path. Waipio valley is stunning, and even if you were not able to hike down, the views from the overlook are breathtaking .

Pololu is one of the most scenic valley of the state!. The Pololu Valley lookout is at the end of the Highway 270 which is on the Northern tip of the island. There is not much parking space available and you would find most cars parked at the end of the road. You will enjoy some beautiful views of the Valley from the road-side as well. There are small and easy hikes available in this area and you will get to see the black sand beach in this valley. While Pololu Valley lookout is at the northern most part of the island, Waipio Valley offers spectacular views from the south side of the island.
